The Putin Heuristic

The Putin Heuristic goes like this.

Always choose the opposite position on any domestic matter to that stated by an evil, foreign dictator.

Recent examples include Putin’s support for Brexit and the election of Donald Trump.

From first principles, here’s why

1. They know way more about the issue than you do
2. They are much, much smarter than you
3. They definitely do not have your best interests in mind

To state a principle is not to claim there are no exceptions. However, I reckon this approach will have you safely covered for most occasions.
